The Moon, lord of the night and of mystery, influences nature and our lives with its power. Just as it affects the ebb and flow of the sea and the growth of plants, it also affects our bodies and above all our minds. By using its power we can change a great deal in our lives, and it can help us find our lost balance in today's hectic world.
The Moon influences our unconscious
Surely you have sometimes just gazed at the Moon. Remember how you felt? Most people feel great relief, as if their worries had floated away on the moonbeams. For the Moon represents everything intimate, mysterious and unconscious, and it truly has a great influence on our unconscious. Thanks to the Moon you can also study your instinctive behaviour. Notice how you behave in the individual phases of the Moon. Acting on intuition may seem almost illogical today, but believe us, it will do you a lot of good.
Let the Moon speak to you
The Moon may wake you at night. When it does, notice how you feel at that moment and listen to your intuition. The Moon makes us look deep into ourselves and let go of the moral ties of our waking self. Which phase of the Moon affects you? What emotions does it stir, and how do they relate to the phase of the Moon? Try to find answers to these questions.
Moon deities
Like the Sun, the Moon has its representatives among the gods. The goddesses connected with the Moon are Selene and Artemis. They also include the goddess Hecate, who unites the four seasons into one cycle. Also linked to the Moon is the god Sin, whom you may know as the divine judge and seer, or as the lord of fertile and infertile days.
Moon magic and rituals
The Moon has a great influence on spells. A different kind of spell is cast in each phase. The new moon, for example, is an ideal time for meditation and reflection. You can cast spells for your health then, but it is also the time of black magic. At the full moon, which is the best time for spells, we cast spells that help us bring everything to completion, so that everything is whole and new beginnings can come.
Here are a few tips for simple rituals that you will manage easily – their effect will pleasantly surprise you.
-
Moon water – is excellent for cleansing and recharging energy. During the waxing moon you need to recharge energy, and during the waning moon to let go of everything negative. Put a glass of water (ideally 2 litres) on the windowsill and let the Moon work on it overnight. Then drink it during the day and feel with your whole body how the moon water acts on you and the energy flowing through you.
-
A ritual for connecting with the earth and the stars – especially needed today. At the new moon, walk barefoot in the moonlight (ideally on grass). You will find balance and ground yourself. Feel your feet and the stars above your head. Feel how you connect and find a natural bond. This ritual will give you strength, mental stability and resilience to stress.
-
Charging with energy – take in your palm rose quartz or a moonstone and let it charge you with energy and connect with you. You can also let the Moon work on you overnight.
Finally, a few interesting facts:
-
people born under the sign of Cancer have a natural talent for selenomancy – divination from the Moon
-
another divination practice linked to the Moon is lecanomancy – the Moon reflected on the surface of water
-
Werewolves are also linked to the Moon, representing the boundary between the human world and nature demons. At a certain time a human soul can turn into a werewolf.
-
The Moon is also represented among ancient deities. It is linked to Půlnočnice (the spirit of time), whom we know from Slavic mythology
